THE MATTERHORN OF AFRICA

The 1730m-high Spitzkoppe Mountain is one of the most Namibia's recognisable landmarks.

Its particular shape has inspired its nickname as "The Matterhorn of Africa" due to the similarities with the famous swiss peak.

Magical rock hollows in Spitzkoppe.

Spectacular rocks and asthonising shapes provide you a sense of real isolation.

SKELETON COAST

The North-western coastline in Namibia is the place where the desert meets the Ocean.

The Skeleton Coast is also home for thousands of seals.

The term of Skeleton Coast is derived from the strong currents in the southern atlantic, which have caused that many ships and whales wreck along the coast.

A NEW TRIP PARTNER...

In order to discover the landscape, wildlife and tribes in Namibia I took a new trip partner.... A 4WD car fully equiped with camping gear!
I hope we will manage together to reach every destination!

Many of Namibia's roads have gravel surfaces, which may need a 4x4. Especially in the wildest parts of the country, roads are sandy or rocky, and sometimes require river crossing.

FAQS

How is the weather in Namibia?

Although it is predominantly a desert country, Namibia enjoys several regional climates.

Nowadays, in september, in the capital city, Windhoek, temperatures variates from 34 in central hours of the day to 7 degrees Celsius in the early morning.
What is more annoying is the extremely low humidity, which makes lips and skin incredibly dry. What's more, the nose holes bleed.
In the opposite side, there is Swakopmund,  a tourist destination for many namibians located in the coast and where we're spending a week-end. The temperature feeling right here is really cold because of Atlantic Ocean breeze and thick fog.

What are the economic means of Namibia?

The Namibia economy is dominated mainly by mining. Event hough it is a harsh desert, its lands hide diamonds, uranium and gold. However, all this richness does not arrive to the general population because foreigner countries such as China take advantage of those mines.

Fishing, tourism, meat are other strong economical pillars.

But also, in Nothern Namibia, where kunene River runs, a subsistence level of agriculture is raised enough to make the country self-sufficient.

To sum up, by African standards, Namibia is a quite prosperous land.

THANK YOU EOI-LLEIDA

Children in Mammadú recieved the whole school material that students and teachers from EOI-LLEIDA donated.

They were all extremly grateful to that action.
From Windhoek, kids and members of the NGO send you back a huge greeting.

GIVE ME A HUG

I have spent this week in Mammadú Centre as a volunteer taking care of the children, playing with them or even, offering them some private classes to improve their english and maths skills.

Although these kids belong to families with limited financial means, surprisingly they all are rich in affection. Whenever they see you they claim: "give me a hug, teacher".

HERE WE GO!

I am pleased to announce that my trip to Namibia has already started.
I arrived in Windhoek last monday, the17th of september.

I found a friendly city where locals usually welcome with a nice smile.
From now on, I encourage you to follow all the adventures that I will post in the blog.
I hope I will recieve your feed-backs pretty soon...
